Gita, Quran and Bible and other such holy books delineate various traits, responsibilities and duties that are expected to be followed and abided by any individual of that particular faith.

Similarly, there is another such holy book which is not that revered, followed and practiced. This book I am referring to, it clearly delineates every responsibility and duty that an Indian citizen is expected to abide by for a flourishing society and nation as a whole.

This book, as published and accepted by the first parliament of India on 26th of January 1950, its called- The Constitution of India.

And, under the Article 51A of this highly valuable and insightful book, it's been duly pointed out that it shall be the duty of every citizen of India —

To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem;

To cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom;

To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India;

To defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so;

To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;

To value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;

To protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures;

To develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform;

To safeguard public property and to abjure violence;

To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity, so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement;

Who is a parent or guardian, to provide opportunities for education to his child, or as the case may be, ward between the age of six to fourteen years.

At times, even looking at that old big book can shed some light on our purpose and duties. Bliss!

Love,

Eva

A citizen is like a strong pillar of the country.

A responsible citizen abides by all the law and orders of the country.

A responsible citizen exercises all the fundamental rights and duties, such as casting a vote, paying government taxes and saving the country from corruption.

A country can flourish when its citizens are responsible enough to build a strong and powerful nation.
