Look Closely at Initialisms

Of course, the rules for abbreviations are not completely clear cut, so this may not always be the case. A tricky one is Ph. D (or PhD), Doctor of Philosophy, where you'd pronounce each letter. There, you have upper-case letters, lower-case letters, and (potentially) periods.
