This is a English Proverb, which means that "You must behave the same way with other's as you are treated by that other fellow ".
You must not be soft and smooth when some one is behaving in a rude or tough manner and behave toughly with the one who behaves softly and in a gentle manner with you.
Be wise and witty and behave as u should and never get soft spoken if some one behaves rudely with you. Be brave and strong no matter where you only if you are correct. Never accept incorrect information or influence if you are forced to do so!!!
Use your brain, and behave yourself in a kind and calm manner to others first. If it has no influence on their tough behavior, then there's no need to be soft spoken anymore. Behave the way with them as they do with you.
