One of the most difficult political reforms of the Jacobin was the abolition of servitude in French colonies.
During the 18th there was a slight criticization of servitude in France. The general association held long discussions on the benefits of men and whether they should be extended to all French nationals including those in French colonies. However, administrators did not enact any laws, fearing humiliation from the businessman whose interests depend on the slave trade.
In 1794 it was eventually the conference which constituted to release all slaves in French overseas territories. It was, however, a short-term trial because in 1804 Napoleon reintroduced slave holding. However, plantation masters realized their freedom in pursuance of their commercial interests. Eventually, on the 27th of April 1848, a judgment was signified to free all 250.000 workers in the French colonies and slavery was ultimately abolished in 1848.
