Soil is formed from the degradation and weathering of bigger rocks into smaller rock particles by the forces of wind, running water, temperature, chemical changes and also due to the pressure exerted by plant’s root system. The rocks actually come from the bed rock which was first made by lava flowing on earth or may also come from direct condensation of lava ( into igneous rocks).

Fun fact: A few milímetres of soil takes a few million years to form from the degradation of earth. [This is actually a slow process]
