how solenoid is different from coil.

A coil contains of only wire that is bent to form a single circle. But in a solenoid the same wire is bent several times to form several circles that are closely packed and have equal radius. Inside a solenoid magnetic field is uniform and very strong and it can easily magnetise a piece of soft iron.
