Sponges are simple multicellular organisms and reproduce both sexually and asexually. They reproduce by the following ways:
Asexual reproduction:
1) Regeneration: If a piece is cut from the sponge, it can grow into the complete individual by reproduction.
2) Budding: A bud is formed on the body of the sponge. This bud contains sponge cells. The bud on separation from the sponge can give rise to a complete individual.
3) Fission and fragmentation: During growth, the sponges fragment into small parts and each subpart forms a complete individual.
They can also reproduce sexually by the production of ova and sperms.
