Steel is differ from sponge bcoz the intermolecular space of steel is very less as compare to sponge. Sponge have little space in it which is filled with air.

The steel has less intermolecular space and maximum force of attraction while the sponge does not have this property. The steel shows various properties like rigidity, lustre etc. While the sponge have opposite properties.
