Aurangazeb spent the last 24 years of his reign in the Deccan.He was sucessful in annexing the states of Bijapur in 1686 and Golconda in 1687.But he was unable to subdue Shivaji and his successor.It resulted in an independent Maratha state.But his prolonged absence from northern India weakened the administration and depleted the treasury.In addition,with these conquests the Mughals directky in confrontation with the Marathas.Though Aurangazeb tried to crush them he failed.

So Akbar established the Mughal power in Deccan. Shahjahan also continued the policy of conquests of Deccan states and succeeded in annexing Ahmadnagar and the kingdoms of Golkanda and Bijapur accept the suzerainty of Mughals and paid tributes to them. Aurangzeb further annexed Golkanda and Bijapur to his Empire.
