Steps to prepare a temporary mount of leaf peel to observe stomata: 1. Take a freshly plucked leaf. Remove the peel of the leaf from its lower surface with the help of forceps. 2. Put the peel in a watch glass containing water so that it does not dry out. 3. Add safranine to the watch glass to stain the peel lightly. 4. Take the peel with the help of a brush and place it on the centre of a glass slide. 5. Put a drop of glycerine over the peel and put the coverslip. Avoid air bubbles. 6. Observe under compound microscope first under lower magnification and then under higher power
