How test cross help in identify unknown genotype of an organism?

to know the genotype of unknown it is crossed with its recessive parent this cross is called test cross.

in this cross if all the offsprings obtained are dominant in their phenotype then the genotype of the unknown is homozygous dominant.

but if some of the offsprings produced are in recessive phenotype then the genotype of the unknown is heterozygous.
