i) Lithium nitrate reacts with water it dissociates to form Lithium ion and nitrate ion with the liberation of hydrogen

LiNO_{3}(aq) + H_{2}O(l) ---------> Li^{-}(aq) + NO_{2}^{-}(aq)

ii) When sodium nitrate (NaNO_{3}) is dissolved in water, the resulting solution is neutral.

NaNO_{3} = Na^{+} + NO_{3}^{-}

NO_{3}^{-} is the conjugate base of the strong acid HNO_{3} will not react with water so the resulting solution is neutral
