Only primates, such as monkeys and apes, and horses have lots of sweat glands that allow them to sweat as much as humans do. All those other mammals still need to regulate their body temperature, though. ... As the water in the mud evaporates from their skin, it carries away heat in the same way that sweat does in humans.

Mammals in particular have a very high number of sweat glands and sweat more than other living creatures. Depending on the mammal, however, these glands are distributed differently across the body and are used to a varying extent.

Horses, for example, sweat across their whole body which means that after they have been ridden and exercised they should ideally be dried with straw to stop them from catching a chill.

Cats sweat only from specific parts of their body. Their sweat glands are found between the balls of their feet, at the mouth, around the teats and at the anus. When it gets very hot they open their mouth and pant, rather like dogs. Dogs also have their sweat glands only under their paws. To increase the cooling effect they hang their tongue out of their mouth and pant the hot air out.
