How the atomic orbitals overlap when a bond is formed?

hi,

The orbitals do not overlap during ionic bonding. Only when covalentbonds are formed and electrons are shared will you get orbitals that are shared. For example, when NaCl isformed the charges of the differentatoms generate the attraction that pulls them together, like magnets.
