Answer:

atomic size decrease along the period due to increase in nuclear charge due to increasing atomic number .for example :in second period ,it decreases as we go from lithium to flourine.

atomic size increases down the group because of increase in number of shells and hence increase in shielding effect (repulsion from inner shells to outer shells).for example ,in first group ,it increases as we go from hydrogen to francium.
