The cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 .
He observed then while examing a thin slice of cork under his self made microscope as Hollow compartments bounded by wall.

A cell is the fundamental, basic ,structural and functional unit of life because all living organisms are made up of one or more cells and each cell perform all the life activities like nutrition ,respiration ,excretion and multiplication.

Cells are of two types :
• prokaryotic
• Eukaryotic
