Helen on her visit to Fern Quarry during the month of Autumn wrote a story and named it "The Frost King". She recalled it was due to the effort of Miss Sullivan's beautiful description of nature sparked some memories regarding the story. Helen eagerly wrote a story as the images and the words revolved in her mind. Someone doubted it and questioned Helen, whether she had copied it from a book. Helen was sure that it was her original story and declared that she had written the story for Mr.Anagnos. When Mr.Anagnos first read it, he was delighted and published the story in one of the Perkins Institution Journals.

Soon it came to light that a similar story to "The Frost King" called "The Frost Fairies" had already been published. The two stories were quite similar in thought and language. This made Helen's story a plagiarism. Helen felt extremely bitter and she could not recall when she heard the story being read  out to her. She felt utmost grieved at the thought that she had brought suspicion to the minds of her loved friends like Mr.Anagnos, who had been most kind and considerate to her.

This made Mr.Anagnos feel deceived  and cheated for he believed that  Helen was innocent. Mr.Anagnos believed that Miss Sullivan and Helen had conspired to copy a story of  another person deliberately to impress him.Helen was presented before a court of investigation and she was cross-examined regarding the authenticity of the story. She felt extremely humiliated and felt so disturbed that even her teacher's loving words could not pacify her. This incident shaked the confidence and demoralized Helen so much that she wished to die.

Helen was not in a mood to forget and forgive. She analysed her mind deeply but could not clearly remember how these circumstances were created and how the same kind of language had remained stamped on her mind. She moved on in life and had overcome the bitterness that had been created.
