The capital of India under british rule was Kolkata but for all Indians their capital was Delhi . So when the revolt of 1857 happened , britishers thought that the power of Indians is Delhi so they destroyed all the havelis and beautiful monuments for security reasons. Even Jama masjid was banned for 5 years.and thus delhi ruined.
