Photo diode is also known as light-detector , photo-detector or photo-sensor.
It is a p-n junction,it is used to convert light into voltage or current.
WORKING:
The normal p-n junction would allow a small amount of electric current under reverse biased condition.however,to increase the current we need more minority carriers.
Due to external reverse bias voltage small number of minority carriers are generated.Minority carriers generated at p- side or n - side will again recombine in the same material before they try to cross the junction.Due to these charge carriers no electric current flows.
