Along the period Electron Gain Enthalpy increases due to decrease in atomic size whereas down the group it decreases due to rapid increase in atomic size.

Electro gain enthalpy:-
- Along the period:- size of atom decreases and nuclear charge increase which results in greater force of attraction for the incoming electron, electro gain enthalpy become more negative. and have tendency to accept the a electron , large energy will be released.
- Down the group:- size of atom increases and nuclear charge decreases which results in lesser force of attraction for the incoming electron, electro gain enthalpy become less negative. and have less tendency to hold the electron, small energy will be released.
