when glucose level of blood rises just after meals ,beta cells of islets of langerhansof pancreas are stimulated to secrete insulin.insulin activates the glucose absorbing system of the individual cells. it also stimulates glycogen formation in liver and muscles. as a result, the level of blood glucose falls after sometime...

then by feedback mechanism, the beta cells also stop production of insulin
