Thanks for asking this question.
First world war ended in 1914. The production of steel in Britain leads to first world war in Europe. Import of this steel to India turned Indian Railways to TISCO for rail supply. This war was continued for years. So, the carriage wheels and shells used in war were manufactured by TISCO.
Hope this will prove informative.

The steel production of TISCO expanded as a result of the First World War in 1914.

1. Steel produced in England was used to meet the war needs in Europe. So the imports of British steel in India declined. The Indian Railways depended on TISCO for the supply of rails.

2. During the war TISCO provided shells and carriage wheels to Britain. By the end of the war it met 90% of the demand of the British Empire.
