How the gases in the atmosphere cause weathering

I guess you mean, how does weathering occur due to air or wind. Wind cause rocks to break down which is known as weathering. Wind can carry small particles or sand and rocks such as in sandstorms in deserts. When these particles collide with rocks they can wear them away. As wind speeds along the ground, it picks up the loose, sandy particles. Repeated hits from these particles will chip away at the rock, making it smaller. These rocks are very smooth, a strong indicator of wind erosion.

If you still want a answer how gases are involved in weathering then that comes under the part of chemical weathering in which harmful gases in the air mixes with the rain and collide with rock to easily weather them away.

I hope you get what I mean to say.

Answer:

The minerals contained in the rocks react with the gases and moisture in the air like oxygen reacts with iron and causes the rocks to rust and get eroded. Human activities affect weathering.

Hope it helps.
