Answer:

Convection is when heated particles transfer heat to another substance, such as cooking something in boiling water. Radiation is when heat is transferred through electromagnetic waves, such as from the sun. Radiation can transfer heat through empty space, while the other two methods require some form of matter-on-matter contact for the transfer.

  • We know that heat is transferred through a solid by the process of conduction. It is because the atoms are closely packed to each other, hence vibrations can easily travel through.

  • The free or delocalized electrons in the lattice structure carries the kinetic energy (because heat is average kinetic energy) throughout the solid. The electrons move through the solid and hits the atoms which causes the vibrations.

  • In this way, Heat is easily transferred through the metals because of abundance free electrons. Hence, Metals are good conductors of heat.
