Answer:

The French Revolution had a tremendous impact on curtailing the growth of liberal thought in France, and it wasn't until the days of Napoleon that we saw a reasonable number of liberal French political theorists and economists once again rise to prominence. On the other hand, observers across the world paid attention to what happened in France; utopian socialists (note that scientific socialism was not yet a thing) were joyous and their writings reflected it, while more liberal thinkers, like Edmund Burke, used the revolution as a springboard to attack socialist thinking.

The Industrial Revolution similarly triggered two main types of racials. There were the market radicals who believed that the Industrial Revolution promoted prosperity, and thus markets and liberalism work. Increased concentrations of disease, child labor, etc. gave ammunition to left-wing radicals who berated capitalism for creating such "exploitative" working conditions. This latter view was also shared by many fascists in Europe in the early 20th Century.
