Insecticidal proteins(Bt toxin) make pores in the insect gut and kill them.

Explanation:

  • Bt toxin is an insecticidal protein that is present in Bt crops. When the larvae of insects eat the leaves or the stem of the plant than this protein gets into the insect body.
  • After going in the insect gut, it becomes active due to the acidic environment of the gut and it binds to some receptors present on the gut. After binding to the receptors it makes pores in the gut of the insect larvae.
  • After pore formation, the larva stops feeding and die out. Therefore insecticidal proteins act on pests by forming pores in their gut.
