The circulatory and respiratory systems work together to circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body. Air moves in and out of the lungs through the trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles. Blood moves in and out of the lungs through the pulmonary arteries and veins that connect to the heart.

Lungs and heart work together by purifying and circulating the blood.

  1. Lungs are part of respiratory system in body and heart is part of circulatory system in body.
  2. Heart receives impure blood, rich in carbon dioxide and low in oxygen, from different parts of body.
  3. This blood collects in right part of heart and is transferred to lungs.
  4. Here, the purification takes place by removal of carbon dioxide in exchange of oxygen.
  5. This oxygen rich blood reaches left side of heart, which is circulated to different organs of body.
  6. Nutrients and enzymes reach the blood from their source organs and are taken by cell through different processes like receptor binding, diffusion, endocytosis etc.
