The Author of Mahabharata is Veda Vyasa was also known as Krishna Dvaepayana Vyasa at first, born in a fisherman’s family.
The soil of the patch of land where Veda Vyasa was born was blackish. Due to the black soil, that patch of land was known as Krishna Dwipa.Hence is known by Krishna Dwipa Veda Vyasa.
The Mahábhárata is Ithihasa (educative history).
