Answer:

For a political party to form the government, they must have a majority of elected MPs. Since there are 543 elected (plus 2 Anglo-Indian nominated) members in Lok Sabha, to have a majority a party should have at least half the number i.e. 272 members or more.

Answer:

All the national level parties (even local ones can) after winning member of Parliament seats (which of course their candidates do on the tickets issued by those parties), forward their claim towards the respected president Sir of India. If a single party wins the majority of the seats in lok sabha which is 273 to be exact, then the president invites the leader of that party to form the government at the centre. If not then, multiple parties can come together by mutual understanding and stake their claim at forming the government. The newly formed government runs for 5 years in normal circumstances, or leases, if there is any early election in case of an emergency or falling of that government due to a no confidence motion. Hope this helps !
