how the people of Bastar adversely effected by the colonial rule?

1) After the Forest Act was enacted in 1865, it was amended twice, once in 1878 and then in 1927.
2) The forests were divided into reserved forests, protected forests and village forests. Villagers could not take anything from the reserved forests which were the best one.
3) With the British more interested in generating revenue from the agricultural lands, the traditional way of life for tribals in Bastar had all but become extinct.
4) Some villages were allowed to stay on in the reserved forests on the condition that they worked free for the forest department in cutting and transporting trees and protecting the forest from fires. Subsequently, they came to be known as ‘forest villages’.
5) There were terrible famines in 1899-1900 and again in 1907-1908.  Reservations proved to be the last straw.
