plant cell have a outer covering called cell wall that is present outside the cell membrane. When the plant cell is kept in hypotonic condition , the cell will swell up and will build up a pressure against cell wall ,but the cell wall will also exert a equal pressure on the cell.

But in the case of  an animal cell , since they lack cell wall will swell up and then burst when kept in hypotonic solution.

so plant  cells can withstand very dilute external medium without bursting  with the help of its cell wall .

cell walls permit the cells of plants, fungi and bacteria to withstand very dilute (hypotonic) external media without bursting because in such media the cells tend to take up water by osmosis. The cell swells , building up pressure against the cell wall. The wall exerts an equal pressure against the swollen cell because of their walls, such cells can withstand much greater changes in the surrounding medium than animal cell.
