How the poem bangle seller related to feminism
Answers
Answer:
It is a feminist song
Explanation:
Note: Because Sarojini Naidu is a feminist, we have to keep that in mind while going through the poem, as that will help us with the analysis.
1) It celebrates the different stages of a woman's life, from when she is a "happy daughter" till she is partway through life and has accomplished what she must do by then ( Pls wait while I explain how that is feminist, continue reading, do not break you're device) This is ironic. It portrays stereotypical women, and refers to the various stages of their life with reference to a man, from daughter, to bride, to wife. Again, since we know Naidu is feminist, it is obvio that we have to interpret this in a sarcastic way. She scorns the patriarchal system, by making readers look at how women are thought of in India. Also, bangles have been used as a metaphor for physical chains. Women throughout India were forced to wear bangles, and reduced them to a state of being an article of beauty to be admired, and ignores the aspect of their intelligence and other selling features. Again, this must be interpreted sarcastically. (Imagine Naidu drawling while she reads this)
I understand that it is hard to figure out whether this poem is feminist or not, as it has mild vibes of both. But again, if you keep in mind that Naidu is feminist, it all becomes clearer
