The role of Europe in the Islamic world was primarily focused on trading at the start of this time. In the later 15th century, Dutch, French , English and Portuguese traders were drawn by the rich wealth that they had gained by selling luxury products to Europe and promoted by the government of Mughal and Safavid who wanted to stimulate the economy through their trading partners.
Explanation:
- These relationships were later formally reinforced by diplomatic relations. In 1622 the first British delegates came to Persia & in 1638 they came to the French. The Portuguese had landed in India in the year 498 & the French later, but the British became the key force of the subcontinent, under the aegis of East India Company. In 1615 the first international deal was signed by Sir Thomas Roe
- Originally, since it had a large domestic trading network, the "Ottoman empire" was more isolated; however, in the 18th century it started to "receive & send" its own European merchants & consul. The court of "Louis XV of France" in the 1720s was visited by one mission from Turkey. The Islamic culture was also improved as the inhabitants of Europe imported many new textiles, tapestries, spices and clothes. Under the "Mughals & Safavids", European art that was circulating amongst court artists had transformed paintings
- This equal cultural exchange had been upset by European colonial powers by the end of the century. In order to defend its economic interests in India, the British East India Company formed an army; its 1757 defeat in the nawab of Bengal leads to further military wars, eventually a British Sovereignty Declaration of 1858. In the Arabian Peninsula, the British also engaged in the inter-dynastic conflicts and set-up a military post in Muscat , Oman. In 1798 Napoleon conquered Egypt; in 1801 the French would eventually be able to conquer North African areas, but he was compelled to retreat. The Dutch involved in countries far east, particularly in the Indonesian archipelago, where islands were united and governed as one colony by the numerous Muslim rulers.
