The light is travelling from the denser to the rarer medium . If the light passes from denser to rarer medium the light bends away from the normal. This can be proved with the help of Snell's Law .

Here let the refractive index of the denser medium be $\sf \mu_1$ and that of the rarer medium be $\sf \mu_1$ . And here $\sf \mu_1 > \mu_2$ . Then , on using Snell's Law ,
