red soil is formed in areas of little rainfall by the disintegration of igneous and metamorphorphic rocks.

red soil is found in malwa plateau, chottanagpur plateau,Declan plateau.

states are Andhra Pradesh Karnataka
Chatisgarh orissa Tamil nahi Madhya Pradesh etc.

It is red to Yellow in colour due to high content of iron oxides and it is also due to the minerals in soil, nature of rainfall and temperature

hope it helps
