Rutherford had concluded that the centre of the atom was not empty by following the method of gold foil experiment where he set the apparatus and started to bombard the alpha particles on the gold foil. the apparatus was surrounded by a rotating zinc sulphate layer which detected the alpha particles. he noticed that the bombarded particles revolted back making some angle rather than going straight. so he concluded that there was some heavy substance in between which was later discovered to be nucleus of the atom. so he was able to prove that the centre part of any atom is not empty
