The ancient bazaars of Hyderabad are very different from the modern markets. To begin with, the old bazaar seems to awaken each of the five senses. The fresh fragrance of the flowers appeals to the sense of smell, the talk about food and spices affects the sense of taste, the musical instruments play on the sense of sound, the dragon-fly's wing awakens the sense of touch while the colourful array of merchandise is a pleasant sight for the eyes. In the modern market, all other senses seem to take a backseat. The focus is primarily on the visual appeal of the display. A customer will buy what looks good, which may or not be intrinsically good.
There is also a lot of interaction in the poem. Questions are asked and anwers are given. Modern day shopping experience is a lot more sterile in comparison. A customer can simply walk up to the goods, put them in a basket, pay the bill and walk out of the shop without even feeling the need to interact with anyone.
Other than that, in Naidu's poem, the wares are all 'Swadeshi', promoting the interests of the locals, whereas the modern markets are flooded with cheap imported goods that threaten to destroy the domestic markets.
