The sex of a baby is a pure matter of chance. None of the parents, be it the father or the mother are completely responsible for determining the sex of the baby. A male contains XY chromosomes whereas a female has XX chromosomes. If an X chromosome from the sperm(male) fuses with the X chromosome of the egg(female) then the baby is a girl-child with XX chromosome. Similarly, if a Y chromosome from the sperm(male) fertilises the X chromosome of the egg, then the baby is a boy-child with XY chromosomes.
