first rocks have been broken down into sand by heavy pressure of fluids and many other things then the sand is needed of minerals to become soil , soil and sand are different in many things , soil is more soft , different in color, and more rich in minerals , while sand are broken down rocks.

Minerals in fluids enrich the sand and slowly turn them into soil, volcanic eruptions cause black soil which is very fertile and suitable for growing cotton , there are many more of these , soil are generally different in different regions idk more than this you better check on gogle though
