The three main types/classes of rocks - metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary are interrelated due to their formation process.
These rocks all have the magma as their primary source. Their formation is a cycle that sees one type forming the next through physical and chemical processes. Here is the cycle:
1)The first to form is the igneous rock that forms through the cooling and crystallization magma.
2)The next set of rocks to form are the sedimentary rocks. These rocks form from the erosion and sedimentation of the igneous rocks.
3) The last of the rocks to form are the metamorphic rocks which are formed by the action of the force the sedimentary rocks are subjected to when buried in the earth. This forces leads to the change of the sedimentary rocks into the metamorphic rocks.
-The rocks then melt again to from magma and the process starts over again
This cycle show how these three rocks are interrelated..
