colonial rule is when the British came to India .the lifestyle and rules of British have changed the life of tribal people.the functions and powers of tribalchiefs changed considerably.they lost their administrative power and were forced to follow laws made by British officials. Some phesants were declared landowners and others tenants, the tenants were to pay rent to the landowner who in turn paid revenue to the state.British extended their control overall forests and declared some as Reserved for producing timber, which was called forest rules and laws..

1. Eviction from land
the colonial rulers cultivated indigo, jute, opium for which they captured vast tracts of lands which the tribals had been cultivating for centuries.thus,as a result of colonialism the tribals were evicted from their lands.

2.Change in forest regulation and laws
The british introduced some fundamental changes in the forest laws which affected the life of tribals considerably.they established state control over forest region and declared the forests as a state property.the tribals in these forests were not allowed to move freely, collect fruits, practise shifting agriculture

3.Exploitation by traders and moneylenders
landless tribals were often forced to borrow loans from the moneylenders on high rate of intetests.they considered all the three as outsiders air dikha

4.Forced them to have settled cultivation
the colonial rulers did not like nomads .british wanted these tribal groups to settle at one place it was because settled peasants were easier to control and administer.this would also ensure a definite and regular revenue for the state
