we know that

a {}^{m}  \times a {}^{n}  = a {}^{m + n}

and

 \frac{a {}^{m} }{a {}^{n} }  = a {}^{m - n}

step by step explanation

 \frac{5 {}^{m} }{5 {}^{ - 3} }  = 5 {}^{5}

5 {}^{m}  \times 5 {}^{3}  = 5 {}^{5}

5 {}^{m + 3}  = 5 {}^{5}

on comparing

m+3 = 5

therefore

m = 2
