as we know

(a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab

so

(a+b)^2- 2ab=a^2+b^2

See:-

(a+b)²= a²+ b²+ 2ab

and, if we will subtract 2ab from above identity then we will get:-

a²+ b²+ 2ab- 2ab

= a²+b²

And hence this is possible..
