Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

For any kind of fraction we take lcm of the denominators .

For proper fraction:

addition-

eg:- two fractions 1/2 and 1/3

       they both are proper fractions

       1/2+1/3

taking lcm=6=2*3

we 1*3/2*3+1*2/2*3

=3/6+2/6=5/6

subtraction-

eg:-1/2 and 1/3

1/2-1/3

taking lcm =6

1*3/6-1*2/6=1/6

For improper and Mixed fraction:-

When its mixed fraction we should convert it into improper

For eg:-

1 1/5 is a mixed fraction  which should be converted to 6/5.

so therefore the addition and subtraction of mixed and improper is the same

Addition-

For eg:-

improper :-

4/3+5/4

taking lcm =3*4=12

4*4/3*4+5*3/4*3=16/12+15/12=31/12=2 7/12

mixed

1 1/3+1 1/4=4/3+5/4

in the same way as the above given addition we get 31/12=2 7/12

Subtraction-

For eg:-

improper-

4/3-5/4

taking lcm=13

16/12-15/12=1/12

mixed -

1 1/3 - 1 1/4=4/3-5/4

using the same method we get 1/12
