Answer:

The balancing of a chemical equation is done with the help of hit and trial method. In this method, the coefficients before the symbols of formula of the reactants and products are adjusted in such a way that the total number of atoms of each element on both the sides of the arrow become equal. This type of balancing is also known as mass balancing because the atoms on both sides are equal masses also be equal. In this method laws of conservation of mass is used. The balancing of a chemical equation is essential to fulfill the requirement of law of conservation of mass. The total mass of all the products of the reaction in a chemical reaction is equal to the total mass of all the reactants.

For Example:

CH4(g) + O2(g) ------> CO2(g) + H2O(l)

On balancing, we get:

CH4(g) + 2O2(g) ------> CO2(g) + 2H2O(l)

* One atom of carbon present in the reactant side and in the product side is equal.

* Four atoms of hydrogen are present in the reactant side and in the product side are equal.

* Four atoms of oxygen are present in the reactant side and in the product side are equal.
