This equation isn't balanced we have to balance it
Mg in reactant side is-1
Oxygen in reactant side is -2

Magnesium in product side is 1
Oxygen in product side is 1
Now we have to balance it

Answer:

2Mg + O2 ----------> 2MgO

Explanation:

Given unbalanced equation:

Mg + O2 -----------> MgO

To balance a chemical equation we have equals the number of atoms in the reactants as well as products side.

Atoms. Reactants. Products

. Mg. 1. 1

O. 2. 1

To balance the reaction add 2 as a coeffient for products side hence MgO turns 2MgO.

But now the Mg atoms count increased so balance the magnesium now add 2 as a coefficient of the Mg in the reactant side.

Hence the equation becomes

2 Mg +O2 ---------->. 2
