Hello,

Before Balancing,

  • Ca(OH)2 + HCl CaCl2 + H2O

After Balancing,

  • Ca(OH)2 + 2HCl → CaCl2 + 2H2O

Balancing means to equate the number of atoms on both sides.

So,

Ca(OH)2 + HCl -- CaCl2 + H2O

One right side                                                                  On left side

Atoms of Ca -  1                                                          Atoms of Ca -  1

Atoms of H   -  3                                                         Atoms of H   - 2

Atoms of O   -  2                                                        Atoms of  O   - 1

Atoms of Cl  -   1                                                         Atoms of Cl   - 2

Therefore, to  balance

Multiply the compounds with the required no.

Ca(OH)2 + 2HCl  --  CaCl2 +  2H2O

Now the number of atoms of each element is equal on both sides.

Hope it will help you.   : )
