There are Three ways in which you can become an architect in India
NATA (National Aptitude Test for Architecture) :
Almost every architecture aspirant writes NATA as it is taken as admission criteria for most of the architecture institutes in India. Every state modifies the NATA score in it’s own way for common admission.
for eg : MAH B.Arch CET in Maharashtra, TN B arch (NATA + Boards-HSC) in Tamil Nadu etc. Admission for Anna University, Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai, CEPT University etc., is done through NATA.
Total Marks : 200 ( Maths 40 + Aptitude 80 + Drawing 80)
2. JEE Main Paper I - JEE Advanced - AAT :
These 3 exams will open doors for Architecture in prestigious institutes like IITs. The candidate has to appear for JEE Main Paper 1. The subsequent exams can be written only if the candidate qualifies in the preceding exam. Admission is PURELY based on JEE Advanced All India Rank.
AAT (Architecture Aptitude test) is only a qualifying examination. It is a three hour duration exam comprising of topics like Geometrical Drawing, Freehand Drawing, Imaging and Aesthetic Sensitivity, and Three Dimensional Perceptions. The test can be taken in English Language only.
Admission is not based on AAT as marks secured or Rank is not revealed. if you pass (only two outcomes pass/fail), you can proceed to counselling with your JEE Advanced rank.
IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee are the only institutes ( a total of 70 seats) which admits their students through these exams.
3. JEE Main Paper II
This exam is used as an admission criteria for SPAs (School of Planning and Architecture) and NITs (National institute of Technology). JEE Main Paper II should be applied alongside Paper I and is conducted on the same day, an hour after paper I offline exam concludes.
