The steps involved are as follows:
1. Successfully complete an ITI certification course in Electrical, Mechanical or related trade or a Diploma Course in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
2. Look out for Advertisements by Railway Recruitment Boards for Assistant Loco Pilot in Employment News or daily newspapers and apply.
3. You have to appear at a written test as per the specified notification.
4. Once you clear the written test, you have to undergo a psychological test.
5. The results are notified in papers or employment news and if you are successful in it you are required to undergo training for at least six months at the nominated training centers.
6. You join as an Assistant Loco Pilot after successful completion of training.
7. On gaining experience of a few years, you would to complete the Loco Shunter's course and be posted thereafter.
8. As per your turn of seniority you would be nominated for the Loco Pilot promotional course and you would be required to complete the same comprising theoretical and field training.
9. Based on the vacancies arising for the Loco Pilot's post, you would be promoted and be posted as a Loco Pilot.
10. A minimum two years of experience is required to be promoted to the next higher level.
