the period no. tells us the no. of electron shells for ex. if the period is 3, then it will have 3, shells

the period tells us about the valence electrons
1 valence electron will be in group 1
2 will be in 2
and 3, will be in 13
4 will be 14 and so on

for ex if the atom has 3, period and 2 group then it means it has 2 valence electrons
and 3, shellss
so 2,8,2 so atomic no. will be 12
